That’s how the light gets in

April 17, 2013
 shed crack

                                 light through fence

Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There is a crack, a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in.

This is a Leonard Cohen quote.   It was quoted in the book I’m reading right now.  I liked it.  I like the idea that things need to have cracks and not be perfect or else there is no space for the light to get in.  So embrace your “cracks” whatever they may be.  See them as opportunities to not be perfect, as opportunities for growth and learning, as opportunities for others to show you grace and love, as opportunities to let in light.

Many of us know Leonard Cohen as a singer.  But the more I learn about him, I think he might be a poet first.  This quote is an excerpt from a song entitled Anthem.  To see the complete lyrics/poem click here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/leonardcohen/anthem.html .
