Recently I’ve been thinking about generosity.  I perhaps wasn’t using that word, but I have been thinking about and being more intentional about where I make financial donations.  Then a couple of days ago, the following, very short blog post turned up in my in box:

Here’s conventional wisdom:

Success makes you happy. Happiness permits you to be generous.

In fact, it actually works like this:

Generosity makes you happy. Happy people are more likely to be successful.

As I pondered this short thought/post, it has caused me to expand my thinking on sharing resources.  I tend to think of generosity and resources in terms of money.  But generosity is about so much more than just money.  Each of us has so many things we can be generous with: our time, our skills, our grace, our kindness, our friendship, to name just a few.

The statement is true, giving to others (whatever you give) does make us happier people.  And who knows how that generosity and happiness with boomerang back.
