“good ideas

August 11, 2014

My last post was about the impact you want to have on others and the world.  Perhaps some of you read that post and thought “I have no clue”.  Maybe you feel like you don’t have any good ideas.  That’s a pretty common thought or experience.  But not long ago I read something that said that when we say we don’t have any good ideas, what we are actually saying is “I don’t have any ideas that are guaranteed to work, ideas that are guaranteed to cause no criticism or moments when I’m sure the whole thing is going to fall apart.”

I think that’s likely close to the truth.  We can get caught in wanting to have the perfect idea or the easy idea.   But to think you don’t have any “ideas” or “no clue” – that isn’t true.  What would your idea be if you did know what is was?  What would your idea be if it didn’t have to be perfect?  What is your “pretty good idea” or “good-ish” idea?

Instead of worrying about the “good idea” – just get started on any idea.  Sure there may be some challenging times along the way, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was a your idea in the first place.  It just might require a bit extra effort to make it happen.
