holding space

December 31, 2018

There is a lot of talk and messages in our culture/society about being intentional.  Being intentional with our time, being intentional with our energy, being intentional with our choices, being intentional with our parenting, being intentional with our careers,… the list goes on and on.

As someone who loves goals and plans, I’ve generally been in support of these messages about being intentional.

But here’s the thing, somehow in the midst of all that intentionality, we need to find a way to ‘hold space’.    To hold space for the last minute invitation.  To hold space to experience awe and wonder at the natural world around us.  To hold space (and energy) to offer support and caring to a friend or family member.  To hold space for the new opportunity that presents itself.  To hold space for the thing we didn’t know we wanted or needed and could never have anticipated or planned for.

So be intentional.  But don’t be so intentional that you haven’t left space.
